“We are close friends and classmates - one of us is a Russian woman with Tatar roots, the other an Estonian woman. The different origins have never affected our communication. However, the opposition between Russians and Estonians in Estonia is still relevant in Estonian society. We put each other in a position of hate speech and oppression, using hostile vocabulary.”
"Dialogue" (2020) is a research project on the topic of multilingualism, xenophobia and hybrid identity familiar to Eastern Europe, which is reflected in the relationship between two close friends. Words that stereotypically polarize and divide society into camps are uttered in a mild tone in the home environment of young women. These linguistic phenomena, which the artists have compiled into a "dictionary of hatred" based on national differences, reduce the identity of both parties to their mother tongue. At the same time, the real identity of artists lies in completely different ethnic backgrounds and fields of activity. Areas that are culturally mixed but neglected in development are often characterized by ignorance of the maze's hybridity and a desire to belong somewhere, which leads to the absurd choice of hostile parties.
